Re: New MZ er has joined the forum

... a bit after polishing (dishwasher tablets tarnish and darken aluminum terribly). My tank panels and airfilter panel were horrible too - as are my handlebars or "driver pipe" as ost2rad and google translate combine to name them.

steering front removal from frame

... front section from the frame so as not to damage the bearings and steering column inside whilst welding up the new stop. I've removed the wheel/handlebars/top column nut and am now at a loss as to how to proceed. I can see the top ball race which seems to be push fitted onto the rotating steering ...

Re: Dart Sidecar

... had a couple of bits missing, and I'm afraid I can't recall the details exactly, but I seem to recall mine had the locknut, which turned with the handlebars, rotating against the bottom friction plate, which didn't. I didn't like that very much, although it never really seemed to cause a problem, ...

Re: New ES250 Trophy Project!

... straight into the frame for about a foot. As it is, I decided to go down the route of making up the rack with spare scrap, including using old handlebars to reconnect the rear sections where I had to cut through them to widen the rack as a whole. As you can see on the third photo, the bit of ...

Re: ETZ steering lock

... with steering locks is the fact that they all seem to have too much play within the locked engagement.. that play allows the thief to rock the handlebars and use them as leverage to break the lock if they can... As for the ignition lock, a pair of needlenose pliers works perfectly fine as a ...

Re: ETZ steering lock

In my opinion its best not to rely on it. Thieves broke my ETZ steering lock just by twisting the handlebars. Fortunately they were disturbed and dropped the bike and ran. I regarded it as a lesson, and have used an external lock instead on all my MZs ever since. EDIT: They ...

Re: ETZ steering lock

... the ETZ, with the lock flush with the steel tube end, you need to turn the key anti-clockwise and push the whole assembly upwards into the yoke (handlebars need to be turned to the right) where you can then twist and therefore lock- you can then take the key out after twisting key clockwise again ...

Re: New ES250 Trophy Project!

... such as cable wear, temperature changes etc, but these would have no effect in the short term. If the idle is set with a hot engine, and the handlebars straight ahead, why should the cable be any less effective than a stop screw? The TS125/150 carb uses the same system and people don't complain ...

... fitted at all). It frees up a bit of space in the headlamp unit and prevents the cables and wires fighting for space in the cable entry below the handlebars - this should help the throttle/brake/choke cables run nicely and without snagging. What's more, in the future if I decide to for any reason, ...

Re: Thanks Lads

Sid. Glad that you got there in the end, just shows how useful / helpful these forums can be, not to mention the people that post here. I am a high handlebars man myself, probably because I was brought up on T140 Export Bonneville's in my younger years, I just find them very comfortable, don't like ...
