Testing the water. Swap TS150 for a 250/1?

Postby Tonyf » Fri Sep 19, 2014 10:37 am

Not sure what I'm going to do so testing the water.

I've got a nice TS150 which I've only just bought/ I've now sorted it out, 11 months MOT & Tax - new exhaust, rev counter, tyres etc but its really a 250/1 that I'm after...

I always fancied a TS 150 ...........apparently very underated ( arent al MZs ) I have a Supa 5 and wouldnt part with it its a far better bike than my ETZ 250 ( better low end torque) although the ETZ has 12 volts / better brakes ( even excellent) and autolube . Always been told of the 4 speed downfall with the 150 though ( too big a gap between 3rd and 4th) .Also th 250s can suffer from the "overun surge" which the smaller bikes dont have, but dont let this deter you from a 250 .Turning the idle air screw in so there,s no tick over can cure this to some extent or fitting an aftermarket "Mikuni" carb ££££££s Though .

Have you used the full 5 speed engine or put the barrel/head from the 4 speed on a supa/5 bottom end ?

In the early 80s, it had a new engine fitted.

Checking out the TS150 properly today - its got the original MZ toolkit. I saw the pump under the seat but well surprised to see the kit complete with puncture repair patch set in the side panel!
