Gen warning lamp stays on.

Postby JawasandMZs » Thu Jan 21, 2021 11:34 am

I started my 1989 ETZ 250 earlier today and to my alarm, especially as I've just fitted (or rather Blurred did it for me) a £240 vape system, the gen warning lamp didn't go out.

I've put a voltmeter on the batt and there's a heathy 14v charge. The bike runs with the emergency alt-coil direct-bypass-the-battery wire activated.

Seems like the warning system itself is faulty. It's bugging me. I could just remove the bulb but I don't want to do that in case one day the alternator really does pack up and I get no warning.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Oh btw it's only starting doing this yesterday. The vape has been on for a thousand miles before the problem with the charge light began.

Following a biased and flawed moderator choice (someone posting aggressive personal attacks is rewarded, while my technical posts are removed - behind my back & without any justification!), I have withdrawn from this forum.

Hi Puffs

Yeah, Blurred is a very nice guy. He even took the trouble to solder wires rather than than just twist together and tape over when he installed the bypass switch.

BTW There's ZERO danger of me going on a long trip on the etz. Not enough power.

I haven't actually read the VAPE manual fully so I don't know if the GEN light would be on fully or not or work like it used to. The GEN light typically would only come on when the battery is being discharged, as calculated by the voltage regulator (?)

The GEN light is somewhat a moot item now that there is a system that runs regardless of battery condition in essence.

I wonder if that taped up second spade is touching another wire? Or perhaps it never worked, after the clocks were changed (the bulb holders aren't the best connections), and use + vibration has allowed a channel for the connection to flow.. :?:
