I just picked up four Clio coils new in the box as backup.

sorry I forgot to post the pictures of the coils.It looks like a dremel or cutters is needed to cut out the attachment point.

UK/Las Vegas guy got the Cleo coils reproduced in the UK for the Aprilia Futura and Cappanord which as this post indicates uses same ECU manufacturer as MZ

Very informative thread. One thing though, there are a number of references to "high tension leads" in the thread, are they referring to the low-tension supply cables to the pencil coil?

I'm not sure but I would agree with Tom's reply.

I have been lucky enough to never have had to replace a pencil coil on any bike.I guess MZ riders are lucky as there are only two per bike and Aprilia/Rotax used

"Only" a Skorpion? Thanks for the link re the pencil coils. These devices of the devil have caused so much misery and agravation across the board in the motorcycle world having been fitted to Aprilia's, Ducati's, Morini's, Benelli's, and MZ's to name only five of the victims. The respective website/forums are full of examples/remedies for a problem that should not exist. What kind of moron designs/fits an HT coil down in to a very hot socket that occasionally fills with water in the top of a cylinder head? Even this I could call just stupid, but to then not notice that a failure would cause the catalyst to superheat on unburnt fuel and become a white hot pulse jet only millimeters beneath the oil sump is nothing short of criminal negligence. The automotive world enjoys a freedom from "duty of care" that is (rightfully) not extended to any of us in other branches of engineering. I could fill a page with examples of this kind of criminal negligence that I have witnessed in 50 years of dealing with cars/motorcycles.
That's my grumpy old Engineers bit for this month.

my car does not need electric window winders is an example

they are getting bit by the junk
saw where several were doing recalls
on power steering problems

i have had nissan cars for years with no problems
and they recalled some the other day

and of course the starter sprag in the mz 125 cc models

Its me again, yesterday while out buying service parts for my Citroen, I was in GSF car parts a well known part supplier with branches all around the UK.
They list the Citroen C5 V6 coil at £25.38p inc VAT.

If this is the correct coil for the MZ, then at least in the UK there should be a branch nearby, if only to go and check on compatibility.

On the subject of electric window winders etc and to reinforce your point, a number of years ago I was a passenger in a UN vehicle that rolled of the road in to a gully landing upside-down whereapon the battery fell out and a fire started. The windows would not open and if it was not for the quick witted actions of a young Russian soldier in putting a few rounds through the rear door glass I would not be writing this missive!
