switch?

Postby suzukix7 » Thu Feb 12, 2015 11:46 am

Sorry to ask a daft question but what is the long switch on the left hand handlebar?
Not the 2 push button ones but the long stalk switch? Is it a kill switch?

Many thanks Dave

It's the choke for the carb. Not a switch. Does magic stuff to the carb to make it easier to start when cold.

on the left side some have a headlamp on off switch
on my rt125 from 2002 it was a locked dummy on all the time

due to a lack of dealers back in 2002 i ordered some extra stuff

the spare looks the same but the switch works its not a dummy

Hi, thanks for the replies, I forgot to mention that my bike is 1979 TS150.
The switch I want to identify is on the left (as you sit on the bike) handlebar switch cluster, in between the horn switch and the pass light switch.
I'm pretty sure it is a kill switch. If so should it be switched down or up to enable the bike to be started?

Many thanks Dave

Got a photo? Because even on the "Luxus" model there should be only one switch on each bar: the indicator switch on the right (three position toggle) and the light/horn switch on the left (2 position toggle for high and dip beam, plus 2x push-buttons for horn and high-beam flash) - you can double check by looking at the simplified wiring diagram: http://www.sweller.co.uk/mz/images/wr_tsd.gif

If there are other switches, they're after-market and added by an over-zealous owner ;)

The TS150's never came with kill-switches, you just turn the main ignition key off to kill 'em. Check how many low-tension wires are connected to your ignition coil - more than 3 and you might have a problem...

Agree with Agrnski... think we need a picture. The TS had the MZ up and down chrome boxes with a couple of small buttons on the left hand one

One problem is these were daily drivers ...and many have been repaired with what ever was handy at the time

from where ever
from 1969 to mid 1980's i had some old bmw bikes that the only way you could tell it was a bmw
is its hard to hide the cylinder heads

Thanks guys, that has answered my question. It is the high beam switch!!!
At the time of asking none of my lights were working so assumed it to be a kill switch but now I know it's a high beam switch.

Cheers
