MZ 500 Country air filter mod with new BMW filter

Postby Little General » Tue Jan 05, 2021 6:20 pm

I know there is a write up on using the bottom from a can to install a new filter in the MZ Country since there are no specific filters available. Being a plumber, I put my spin on the conversion. I used an old plastic paper box and drilled a 4" round hole in the back. I put the round disk that I drilled out in a vise to hold it and drilled a 2" hole in the 4" piece. Then using the original round metal center piece from the old filter, I put it all together and tightened it up. Her are a few pics. I used a BMW part number 13 72 1 342 355

Well done!

The problem is finding a paper filter with a suitable ID (& L); I'm surprised to hear that aren't any alternative suitable filters available.

As to the air filters, my brother in law is the vice president of Wix filters international. He is from Germany and I had him look for me a filter and even cross reference the dimensions to another readily available filter and he found none. But , I m sure he didn't try very hard either ...lol

Following a biased and flawed moderator choice (someone posting aggressive personal attacks is rewarded, while my technical posts are removed - behind my back & without any justification!), I have withdrawn from this forum.
