TS 125/150

Postby JawasandMZs » Wed Jan 11, 2023 11:56 am

Am I right in thinking that the earlier engines, which ran on 33:1, were poorly designed and more likely to need rebuilds compared to the later 50:1 motors?
What are the differences and when was the crossover year?

I had a 1978 ts150 two years ago which turned out to be a total money pit. I'm thinking of going for later version next, which would obv be 125 as 150 abruptly stopped selling after 1982.

Thanks.

Any Mz Ts 125/150 made after 1976 right up to the last ones made (or sold as 1987 E regs) were all the later engines. The give away is the pre 1976 models had chrome plated steel fork bottoms on the front end and the fork sliders were slightly smaller

Later models had alloy bottoms painted black crackle.. the frames were much the same though. Later front ends fit on earlier models. Most changes were model specific.

Folks

Can anyone help with an engine number that would signify the change to the later engine.

I have an ES150 registered in UK in June 1976, engine # 6542969 - how do I know if I have the later engine ?

Many thanks

Take a photo of the engines head, then the bottom. Then put it into here or google lens/.images.

And see what comes back.
