Removing a stuck float pin-Skorpion TK carb-Help please.

Postby djsbriscoe » Sat Apr 24, 2010 8:25 am

Hi,
I'm trying to remove the float retaining pin on my Skorpion Teikei carb.

Stuck Teikei float pin

I'm assuming that the pin should be removed in the opposite direction to the little arrow on the casting, am I right?

Does anyone have a non distructive way of removing the pin. Otherwise I will just have to leave as is.

As always any help appreciated.

David.

In addition to Dave's good advice, I'd suggest get a helper to support the carb boss vertically on a small (5mm or less) deep socket, metal tubing or whatever on the as-shown left side to absorb the force and allow the pin to push through.
Then use a thin (under the pin diameter) punch to gently tap the pin out. It's critical to avoid having the float pivot areas take the force unsupported.
Typically a four handed job, to play it really safe.
Good luck.

Did you mean to say 4hundred handed job

seem like every thing i get into any more
turns into a night mare and spends vast amounts of cash
replaced all the rusted bolts on the cargo rack on my bicycle
today $20usd (stainless) plus a new red light on rear at $11.00usd
now i can be seen and i don't look all rusty
the rack was nice they just supplied it with cheaper bolts than came stock
on the rt125
it set in the shed last winter and and all the bolts
turned to rust in 5 months
the $20 for bolts may seem high but i learned something
in years past
fix it correctly and you do not have to do it over very soon

Note that you should be trying to remove the pin 'IN THE DIRECTION OF THE ARROW' according to the manual. Take great care when removing it as it is possible to break off one of the mounting lugs. (Don't ask!) I've used a small nail with the point filed flat to make a punch to drive the pin out with VERY light taps with a small hammer.
Good luck.

Also, when you get the pin out, remove the cross head screw under it and pull the valve seat out with pliers. On top of the valve seat is the 'secret filter' that causes no end of problems if it clogs up. Clean it out and fit an inline filter into the fuel line.

Hi,
Thanks everyone for your help.
I've used a pair of electronics wire cutters to grasp the pin. Works great but it tends to score the pin slightly, but it should be ok with a bit of wet and dry or dressed with a needle file.

Normans way i did not have a book on the carb
those needles/pins are most often tapered look close at them

ok , so i pondered over this problem because i had the same issue myself not so long back,,love solving problems and i think i found cheap home made "carb float pin removal tool"
as you can see in the photo its a modded 1" G Clamp..here are instructions to make your own,,
1.buy steel good quality g clamp
2.file flat the opposite to screw end to allow pin to pass through..
3.wind out screw to prise off pad.
4.wind screw back in to make mark on opposite end ,ready for drilling.
5.remove screw and through that hole drill hole for opposite end to allow pin to pass through
6.remove t bar from screw and place in electric drill.
7 .rotate screw and file end to make pin push shape,i used grinder. file will do.
8.replace t bar and squash end so it keeps
9 stand back in amazement at your new toy,
