For engine service the szr660 and XTZ660 manuals will do.
As for electrics those bikes have the same ignition system and starting system.
Lighting will be different though.

Read through the archive for info from Bill (German guy). Over the years he posted lots of valuable info.
He rebuilt, tuned and raced these things and knew his stuff.
There's some good info on plugs and valve settings which differ from the manuals and it all makes the bike
start and run better.

It's worthwhile sitting down with a coffee and reading through the whole 660 section. Some good stuff in there.
His - 1995 Yamaha XV750, 21 000 miles.
Hers - 1994 MZ Scorpion Sport - 40 000 miles.

What makes yours the sport model if that's what you have? I have a spare head light for one and other spares but it sounds like you've a tour. I'm in West Yorkshire btw. Eric

Thanks for the reply Eric , I will post pics as soon as I can get the thing to work , I picture tells a thousand stories !, i think it is a Tour , as you say , i found a fairing bracket under the engine that has been sawn off , this may indicate the model to you . The bike has had a full service now and the old air filter was the worst i have ever seen ! i would be interested in any spares you may have also , thanks again , Ian.

This is the headlight that came with the bike , I think it is from a Saxon model? , this was secured with cable ties ! and I have now re-installed with brackets from E Bay for a custom headlight fitting brackets . The bike is having an M.O.T. on Monday 8 June . I will let you know how it goes , I tried to load a few more pics but to no avail , I would still prefer the original headlight if anyone has one to spare , thanks , Ian.

Still not sure which one it is although from what's in the pic it could have been a sport. Has it two seats if so its a sport. The others just had headlight brackets from the fork legs

The handlebars are Tarrozzi's with risers, Sports had low clip-ons and the side panel/seat junction at the tank look to be the Tour model (you wouldn't see the seat coming up to the tank on a Sport). Good example here:

Did the Sport ever come with Tarrozzi's?

The bike passed the m o t , it has not got single seats so I can safely assume it is not a sport!. Bad news is the clutch packed in on the way back from the test centre so I will strip to see what the fault is... Sounds like the thrust bearing has given up, hey ho .the joys of an m z . The ride was great though ,looking forward to many miles to come....
