Hello All, my poor ol' MuZ Sport is sitting there rotting in my garden!! so i am thinking of doing it all up etc.

Couple of questions though. Can i get parts easy enough? especially things like seat, fairing? Anyone have any links to someone that has done mods on these? thinking of making this a big project, and quite fancy the idea of changing bits and pieces...would like spokes on for example, maybe even change swing arm.......not sure as yet, so any suggestions, pointers, links would be very much appreciated.

Kind Regards
Mick

Secondhand spares dont come up to often for the 660 models in the UK, but they do come up on Ebay occsaionally. For new spares try BSA Regal in Southamption.
It might be an idea to post some pictures of your bike to get an idea of the size of your project.

Well it probably aint as bad as I have made it sound to be honest. Will replace with all new if possible...I owe this baby!! been a bloody good bike, and I have no intention of selling on.

Things it wll need are new seat, mirrors, chain and cogs, PETROl CAP!!! the thing fell to peices when i was filling up one day! had to buy a rubber thing in garage!, new brakes and discs, and possible another exhaust.

Like i say, it sounds worse than it is. I am just looking at spending money on her. Done lots of searches on the net and come up with zero projects of the sports! Had a cafe racer type project in mind..hence the idea of spoked wheels.

Willing to experiment with different parts etc.

Anyway thanks for the reply Mate.

What a poor creature... :(

What a lucky garden archaeologist! Don't worry! :D

Well, it depends on how much you're willing to spend on the bike. The Mastiff/Baghira spoke wheels could possibly be fixed, as some Mastiffs came with the Skorpion wheels, too. But,... they are damn heavy! Heavier then the stock wheels, so it's not really welcome weight. Try to use some SZR, TZR 250 3XV wheels.
Expensive, but mjummm: http://www.dymag.com/index2_e.html products for motorcycles, click the last left picture for the database

MZ dealer Peter Musiol somewhere close to Berlin owns a Skorpion Classic with spoke wheels ( muz.musiol@t-online.de ). Rumors say, MZ was planning a Classic, but unfortunately it never saw daylight. If your in contact with a good craftsman, some lighter supermotard wheels could be fixed surely...but won't be really cheap.

Hmmm, I could write a drama play about all the parts that could be enhanced on a Skorpion. So just check out the following links, please. I tried to mention all the favourite US links, concerning currency and customs difficulties.

http://www.holeshot.com

http://www.barkersbars.com

http://www.ebcbrakesdirect.com/bike/par ... 9&sec=Euro

Some Honda NSR 125 use the same front rotor:
http://cgi.ebay.de/Honda-NSR-125-Bremss ... dZViewItem
http://cgi.ebay.de/Bremsscheibe-fuer-Ho ... dZViewItem

Chain is a 520, 5/8 x 1/4, 108 chain links for 39 teeth rear sprocket, 110 for a 43. Front sprocket can be purchased at Yamaha, XT600, XTZ660, SRX, SZR ...

I dont't really know if you can buy metric screws in a usual store in the US. As the stock screws, wherever they were, corrode easily, this was the first thing I improved when I bought my bike.

An SZR swing arm can be fixed, some Dutch riders did so, but it seems quite complicated. Try out the http://www.monoconnection.nl forum for help.

Or just post in English in our humble forum in Germany, you're always welcome:

Muzz......Im not in the US!! Listen Mate, that is a wealth of info there and i am extremly gratefull...saw your website...but unfortunately for me, can not read German.

I loved my Sport, and even though the poor thing has been neglected of late, i doubt i will ever part with it! sad i know..but I have owned tons of bikes, and can honestly say...the Sport tops the lot!!

I am gonna spend what ever it costs on her to be honest, over time of course, but i feel it will be worth every penny.

Will check out the link.....now while your here...World cup tickets? ;-)

I must admit...I didn't even try, although I like soccer/football and live just 60 miles north of frankfurt.

But the 2nd ticket selling round just started on Monday: http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/tickets/index.html

As your from Britain, Dymags could be something to think about... 8)

I hate Beckenbauer...but it's nice here anyway. :)

Out of Interest, would the full fairing of the CUP model fit on to my sports? Can you buy it anywhere? They do look good with full fairing!

Cheers

Well, the Sport fairing holders are somewhat higher than the Cup/Replica ones. But you can try to fix a fairing, as my dad did with the stock holders.

http://www.fun.bottger.de/mzskorpion/bi ... /index.htm

After a crash, I fixed the lower C/R ones, to keep all options for my bike. So you don't need them really, but the full fairing looks a bit high with the stock holders.

Fairing and additional holders can be purchased at any MZ dealer, the fairing also at http://www.beasleycomposites.com . I don't know the exact price for the holders any more, but it should be around 150 pounds. The fairing should cost around 200-250 pounds.

Or again at ebay :-)
http://cgi.ebay.de/Vollverkleidung-Scor ... dZViewItem
Price is fair, but dealer doesn't ship. Just ask him if he does nevertheless, if you're interested.

Or at
http://www.mlb-motorsport.de/products/html/m_z.html

Who is West Ham? :-D

I had lts of plans for my Sport, but enjoy riding it to do too much to it.

Have one i am braking, but kept the motor (now been rebuilt and tuned by Steve Ruth, 102 mm piston, etc) and wheels as spares. Have frame, swing arm, forks, standard pipes and other bits & pieces for sale still).

Metmachex do a nice braced swing arm (I have a photo of a Sport with one fitted I can e-mail to you, as I can't seem to download on here)-look superb, but over £700  when i rang them and enquired about a price.

Hayward & Scott in Basildon, Essex can custom build you a decent twin pipe set up (and for far less than you wold ever imagine-and these boys know what they are doing) so you can chose which end cans you use.

The MuZ Replica has Marchenisi light weight wheels and upside down forks. You could be lucky and find a set in the Netherlands, were the Replica did have it's own race series I believe.

Also try googling "supermono" as there is some good stuff and idea's on their various sites.

Love mine-use Sport and Baghira in rotation as commuters (120 miles a day) and both are ideal!

Hi guys!

Great to see some Skorpionists in Britain!

Well, the Dutch just rode the Skorpion Cup with a nice (!) Remus exhaust, sorry, no Replicas. But, don't worry, as the Marchesini's aren't that leight as believed. I have a front wheel from a Laverda and it is somewhere inbetween the stock Sport wheels and the really light Yamaha wheels. You could also use the Yamaha TZ250 racer wheels. They are also cast alloy as the ones from the TZR 250 3XV, but measure 3.5 and 5.0/5.5 inches. They look the same, but are "for racing only". No chance to pass the German TueV. :-( So I took the 3.0 and 4.5 from the TZR which are just the same but smaller (and lighter) and I could keep the 110/150 tires.

MuZ/MZ built only 129 Replicas. Numbers from 1-250 were randomly chosen. I looked years for the forks... I still have some 41mm adjustable paioli RSU forks, which came from MuZ Enineering, the development department.

http://www.fun.bottger.de/mzskorpion/bi ... ov04_3.jpg

One side is rebound, one compression adjustable. They are quite the same as in the Bimota YB9sr, not sri. MZ choose the WP forks, as USD forks were more poular and...WP was cheaper! :-) I took the WP to fix two 280mm discs, the Paiolis were made for two 320mm, a little too much for road use. With a special axle and modified fender it was compatible to the stock parts. Unfortunately the rebound side is too stiff for the road, something seems to be working incorrectly. If you're interested... :-)

@Mick: The swingarm looks rather poor, better get a new (used from whysub) one. Bolts and screws are as I expected. :-) Check the frame head for rust, maybe it needs to be de-rusted and coated.

The Sport fairing holders are higher than on the Replica/Cup, but you can fix a full fairing nevertheless, although it's pretty high looking as on my dad's bike. http://www.fun.bottger.de/mzskorpion/bi ... g05_12.jpg

After a crash I fixed the lower version, to keep up any option:
http://www.fun.bottger.de/mzskorpion/bi ... g05_09.jpg

Full fairings can be purchased at MZ, http://www.beasleycomposites.com or
http://www.mlb-motorsport.de/products/html/m_z.html

@whysub: Could me send a picture too, please? Thanks! mo660@web.de

Quite a lot!
Nice weekend!
It's raining all day long here!! Aaaargh!
