does it have a modified seat? I did 400 miles on mine once.. once.... (in my best Joe Piscapo (sp) in Johnny Dangerously impression)

seriously, that is a long way to go in one trip on this bike. I cut my seat down, and it helped a bunch. also, a sheep skin pad really helps too.

Oh boy are you in for it! I bought a 2003 Baghira enduro exactly like you got. Took a train to Roanoke VA picked it up and rode it home to Delaware. It took three days and I was in pain for a bout week afterwards. The stock Baghira seat is very uncomfortable. Also, they come stock with full knobbies, I had to keep a death grip on the handlebars all the way back to keep it between the lines.

Let us know how you make out.....

Yeah, the bike is great. I now have 31,000 miles on it, and the only significant problem I have had is spokes breaking in the rear wheel. You got a great deal on yours. I now have a Russell Day Long saddle and it’s real comfortable, I have rode from Delaware to the Mexican border in 4&1/2 days without getting beat up.

russell day long seat eh?
sounds great - whats the damage on one of those...

oh - and heres the latest update on 'the trip'...

after some careful reevalution it seems i was a bit off on the BIGGER PICTURE math...

the shipping is about $700...and that is steep, but...

i was gonna ship a set of tires out to be installed before i leave...$150
a plane ticket to chicago (1 way) $200
then i would have to take a day off of work $500
then theres gas and food and lodging (3-4 days) $200
and then - theres the potential that...
A) the bike could break down on the way (who knows) $XX
B) i might have to lose another day of work if im running behind...$500

clearly my public school eduacation once again had almost failed me...ALMOST.

now - we're back to shipping it again - WOO HOO!!!

so - it looks like ill be able to get some 'local' time on the bike before i make a BIG trip and save some money too...which i think, is a bit smarter in the long run.
:smt023 :smt023

c'est la vie!

better idea

Postby DAVID THOMPSON » Tue Apr 18, 2006 4:31 pm

3 better ideas

1 ship it
2 Russell Day Long saddle for long trips
3 get used to bike and learn to work on it before any
long cross country trips

Postby DAVID THOMPSON » Tue Apr 18, 2006 10:09 pm

better we talk you out of it than
you stranded in New Mexico with it :smt100

and have to ship it any way

i know ....
i went to Cary NC a couple years ago and picked up my 500cc saxon tour
and hauled it home in my truck round trip was 987 miles

after getting it home boy am i glad i did not fly down and get it
i rode bike here at home and replaced tires it had the wrong size tires
and handled real bad and motor had carb problems

but also it was middle of october and at least 150miles of the return trip
was in a snow storm need i say more :smt024

the only downside to shipping is - NO INSTANT GRATIFICATION!!!
