Supermoto Trip to Corsica

Postby whysub01 » Wed Apr 19, 2006 4:52 am

Just got back from Corsica with 10 other supermoto riders. Bikes ranged from a TM, to a Cannondale, to various KTM's and Honda's, to my Baggi.

And which bike did the biggest mileage, with no breakdown or blow ups?

Yep, the Baggi, covering over 1,000 kms in 3 days (bikes were trucked over).

If you ever get the chance, go there-the roads are fantastic!

Well, the XR had some starting issues, mainly to do with the airleak on the headers (well, that's his excuse), and a Shoei does not make a good stand for an XR-see pic-but apart from that it held together between pie shops.

Here is Stoo, sleeping off another pie lunch (and yes, all the Forrest Gump similarities have been mentioned!)

that GUMP pic is HEE-LARIOUS!!

lets see some more pics of the trip and bikes if youve got 'em!!

and did i hear you right...was the damage to that shoei from the bike falling on it?

if so - i did the same thing with my XR400r out near the salton sea a few months ago...i rode to the top of a red clay ridge to survey the surroundings...stopped to take in the view and catch a breather (helmet off - carefully perched over my throttle grip) - as i turned around to see the bike headed down towards the equator...SHIT!! :smt089

i dont mind scratching my helmet for a good reason...this was just lame!! :smt030

c'est la vie.

Yep, Shoei damaged by the bike toppling over on to it.

Heres the link to a fellow riders pic's (and lots of them!):http://s69.photobucket.com/albums/i63/supermot/Corsica-April06/

And here's a pic of my Baggi towing a Canondale which had lost all its electrics. Towed it for about 30kms, at speeds of up to quite high mph!

The Baghira-the most universal SM there is. Forgot to mention that it was used to tow start a KTM 525 for the first couple of days (new owner just couldn't kick start it!) until he crashed it. Heavily!

Picked it up this morning from where it had been trucked back to from Corsica. Which is 70 miles from home. Rode it back on the M25/A12 (freeways). Took 52 minutes, door to door.

Part road bike.
Part off-road bike.
Part Tow Rig
Part Super Tourer.

It does get better and better. If, drj, you like yours half as much as I like mine, then you'll love it.

Oh yes, and two KTM's had to be made into one. The one then crashed.

See attached pic swapping stuff around (and note the TM with cast wheels and single sided swing arm in the background-stunning to look at, but as fragile as egg shells (although the owner will beg to differ)).

Great pictures in your Album... I think I should visit the island soon!
Yeah... travelling is fun! :)

I went to France and Switzerland last week. 3500 km in 7 days... really nice. After the hard winter, it was pure satisfaction.

KEEP IT COMING!!!

Postby drj » Thu Apr 27, 2006 12:50 pm

GREAT PHOTOS - italy clearly is one of the most beautiful countries in the world. it looks like a riders paved paradise from here.

i ab-so-lute-ly love travelling by moto...it is SO much better!!!

its one of the last bastions of true adventure left on the planet...from pavement - to dirt...from here to there - and to the middle of nowhere.

one cylinder - one plug - no worries!!

Well, the Supermoto 2007 trip is being planned already (maximum of 16 places), and it is to Corsica again, only this time staying in the middle of the (French) Island-we never got to explore anything apart from the north and a little of the North West.

Not that bad a price for 2006. Hotel, bikes trucked over, flights and Ferries, all for around £620 (less than 5 UK track days).

2007 should be cheaper-direct flights, stay at a camp site (but in chalets-no roughing it), support van, etc. We know where we went wrong this year, and can rectify it.

Corsica is simply FANTASTIC. The organiser has ridden all over Europe, others all over the World, but the concensus was that there is nowhere as good as this.

for details.
