Latest technolgy they are developing invloves a `chip' being embedded in your number plate. This `chip' can then be read by sendors at the side of the road (no Ploice car required) giving average speeds and a regularly updated location of the vehicle. Currently I think this has been put on hold because of legal objections. I can see them getting around that eventually though.
