Starter Clutch - Parts???

Postby kurtstange » Tue Apr 05, 2011 2:04 pm

I have a 2001 660 black panther that needs a new starter clutch. Does anyone know where I buy that part? I have checked with many Yamaha dealers locally in Miami and no one seems to be able to find it...

Thanks for the help!

re those dealers:I would not give any of them even the time of day, let alone my business. They are not serious and, putting it bluntly, don't know shiiiittt!

This is the XT600E which was sold in the US and is identical to the XTZ as far as the crankcase left side, crankshaft, starter clutch, and generator are concerned. the clutch itself is the same but it is actualted by a pluger thru the mainshaft of the transmission, i.e. from the left. The clutch arm and shaft it where that big black plastic plug in on top of the crankcase under the starter.
As you can see, I got these imagesfrom the Yamaha US site where anyone with a little ingenuity can find them. That includes you but much more so those dealers who obviously cannot find their way out of a paper bag.
Stay as far away from them as possible.
Now to the more fundamental question: why do you need a new clutch? I have never ever needed a new one for a stock engine and I have had plenty of Yamaha singles on my bench. They never break, very unlike those of the BMWF650 for instance.
