99 Skorpion Sport

Postby AustralianMuZ » Sat Nov 02, 2013 4:32 am

Hi everyone I'm new to MuZ's and I just purchased a 99 660 Sport.
It has a couple of small issues that I'm wandering about. First up the rear brake is dragging a bit and I was wandering if the Grimeca's are known for this and is there a kit for servicing them?
2nd thing is the rear brake doesn't switch the brake on, once again is this common and is it a case of replacing the switch itself?

the rt125 uses same hydraulic switch and i have had several fail
seals in calipers same as some honda goldwing
and after 2009 or so kawasaki klr 650 caliper units look the same and use the same pads
dave

couple kymco scooters have calipers that look the same
i think it was called a bet and win here ???

Hi mate, Where are you based ?
I'm in Brisbane and have 2 Skorps on the road, as to the rear brake problem, yes the switches do play up, both mine don't work but can be replaced with over counter from any auto parts shop. Take your old one in for comparison.
Brake drag is seized pistons, disassemble the caliper clean all the pistons and seals with metho and reassemble with a light smear of silicon grease or silicon oil.
I do mine this every time I replace pads. Catch you out on the road someday.
Russell.

Cheers for the replies, I'm from south oz mate :).
That's good to hear some current model stuff shares parts with these things. I'm also chasing an English workshop manual, does it exist? Lol

Cheers for that. I've also noticed that the front brake lever is bent, is there any other model bike that is interchangeable with these 660's?

the levers are common only to mz as far as i can tell
best to replace with something you can source in OZ

the brake unit on the klr650 made after 2009 may work

and boy have i spent a bunch on levers

I get my brake levers from this supplier from their Ebay site.

Cutch levers are easy to find, brake levers are non existent in Oz, closest fit I found was off a KLR 250 early model. Alternative is replace master cylinder with something from Jap bike.

If you do a search I am sure Bill J mentioned a replacement indeed he gave me one off a TZR or something Yam, all the parts tend to Yam or Italian. Very few are MZ specific like the tank. BTW what happened to my mate Bill Campbell in Sydney. I have tried to email but nothing...Bill come back all is forgiven!! Top bloke!
All the best

Cheers for the info guys, I've purchased a new muz brake lever and rear brake switch from the UK last week so that's a start.
Now I'm on the hunt for a bottom half fairing to make it a complete fairing. Is it a case of waiting to find a real 'replica' being stripped or does someone make a copy?

Well I've scrapped the idea of servicing and they're being swapped out for a cagiva mito brembo up front and Ducati monster rear brembo :).
Other than purpose made race glass what front fairings have people fitted to their skorpions? I'm looking at an rgv fairing this week but I'm sure it will be far too small!

Honda TRX450 and some other Hondas brake lever fits the Skorpion, comes in various short and articulated styles.

The stock levers do the job, the Gremica calipers usually just need some tlc and silicone grease.
If you want to trade for levers, let me know...
The Bottom fairing can be sourced from http://www.beasleycomposites.com/
