SZR engine in Skorpion - top engine mounting

Postby Jurrien » Sat May 10, 2014 4:02 pm

Hi,

I am currently busy swapping the original engine in my Skorpion with an engine from a SZR.

The Skorpion engine was mounted at the top with two short bolts and two nuts. The nuts mounted inside. Like in the next picture:

But the nuts don't fit in the SZR engine because that particularly area is much smaller. As you can see in the following picture:

Now I thought about putting just one long bolt through both holes. But will this need a inner spacing bush? Because I am afraid the cylinder head cover could crack if you squeeze those two mounting points together?

I've tried looking in the part list is of the XTZ and SZR if those bikes have just one bolt there... But it unfortunately those part lists aren't very clear to me.

Use a Allen bolt with the nut on the outside
and a flat washer on the inside
you may have to shorten the wrench to get them installed
not in favor of a long bolt may place too much stress in the wrong place

Ok, good idea! Too bad I didn't think about that myself.

I think the washer and bolt head won't even fit.. But I can grind some material from it.

Thank you very much!

My Skorpion had some regular bolts that were milled on one side so that once inserted from the inside, nut facing out, the milled surface of the bolt head acted as it's own backup using the rocker box cover to prevent it from spinning. I don't know if they were OEM or if someone took the time to make them, but they work great. For the record, one of the guru's around here doesn't even think the top engine mounts are necessary and removes that part of the frame altogether.

Ah thank you! Yes, I'll do that too, then I won't have to buy new bolts.

But first I need to drill out the rear mounting hole.. The one which shares the bolt with the swing arm. That hole is a lot smaller at an SZR engine.
