Rear brake problem!

Postby mehoaga » Fri May 23, 2014 10:59 am

Hi all,

My skorpion tour had the brake pistons blocked while driving. The pads got worn trough the iron, damaged my rotor.
I want to change te rear brakes to brembo. I read cagiva mito brakes fit right on. The monster brakes need helicoils. How about the rotor? where do i find a rotor to fit the bike? Maybe someone here has some spare parts left?

Thanks in advance!

Hi Mehoaga,
think you might have got your wires crossed about calipers. Front caliper from a Mito is a direct swap ( I know because I've done it and thought it was worth it) but the rear caliper needs helicoiling. It uses the same caliper as the Ducati ( P32f ). I think MuZ were the only ones to use a threaded caliper. I think that all you need is the 8mm helicoil kit with the correct tap as the hole is the right size for tapping. EBC make a suitable rotor (MD637)

Cheers

Thank you for the info! I almost ordered it today. It looked similair and had threaded holes. Is a helicoil strong enough to hold the caliper in place?

Does this one fit?
Complete rear brake, 1 calipers, 1 pump + free brake pads at 50% for DUCATI 748 MONSTER 600 620 800 900 1000, part number 611.4.002.4A Rear brake caliper,625.4.005.1AB Rear brake pump

It is The pump, reservoir and caliper used of a ducati monster. Will this fit?

Had a look at that caliper, drawing shows threads on the caliper bracket but not on the caliper. I think that it is the right size to fit the Skorpion but will need helicoiling. This is because the caliper mounts on the other side of the caliper mounting compared to Ducatis, Mitos etc. This means that the Skorpion mount bolts pass through the mounting bracket and bolt into the caliper, on other bikes the bolts pass through the calipers and bolt to the bracket. Properly installed Helicoils are stronger than the bare alloy thread.

Cheers,
