What is this Extra Part after bottom end rebuild.

So after finally getting around to rebuilding my engine... I have this left over.

Do any of you engine gurus have an idea where his goes?

I found it after buttoning up the cases.. I then proceeded to re-disassemble them, remove the tranny parts and investigate, but I could not find a place for it.

It does not appear to be polished on the inside so doesn't seem to be a bearing.
It doesn't fit any of the locating pin holes.

I'm stumped.

Thanks in advance oh wise forum contributors :)

You gotta be kidding me! Myself and another person that responded to my thread did the same thing. LOL And still, nobody knows. My engine has about 750 miles on it now so it must not be that important. :) viewtopic.php?f=3&t=6851

If you didn't service your top end, at least we know it's not from that part of the engine. I was unsure in my case. What exactly did you do? Right side only? Left side only? Let's narrow this thing down and find out where the damn part goes.

It would appear to be a locating dowel, a way of ensuring castings locate exactly as intended, a fixing screw or bolt passes through the dowel the screw is only just a fit through the dowel so if you reassemble with the dowel missing it looks like everything is fitted and you have a mystery extra part ....The dowels often stay in the casing so you don't realize they exist....

That's been suggested in my thread but the part has a flange on one end. I've never seen an alignment dowel like that. ;)

edfmaniac, lol, exact same part!

I installed a new Crank and Rod. I haven't put the top end back on yet.

This came from the bottom end though, that is certain. When I disassembled, 6 months ago, I put all the parts into separate plastic baggies and boxes, etc... This part revealed itself after the bottom end had been laying on it's side as I torqued the case bolts. I think it must be a keychain accessory...

Glad I'm not the only one. and glad your motor is going strong!
