Skorpion engine alternatives

Postby ralf » Tue Jul 14, 2015 2:56 am

Quite a few years ago I bought a crashed Skorpion Sport where the engine had already been sold and plastics wrecked. Fortunately the main frame is undamaged and I have it on SORN. I'm thinking if rebuilding it as an unfared version but need an engine. What engines will fit? Obviously any Yam XT660, would the Yam 500 fit? Or the Rotax 650 in the Aprillia Pegaso ? Anything else? Advice appreciated.
Riding it is much more fun than polishing it.

I'm pretty sure the XT600 air cooled engine will bolt right in since it shares the same case.

This is kinda one prototype with an air cooled engine. Shows it can be done. Don't ask me what the lump is.

How about just replacing it with another Skorp motor? Sure would be a lot easier, might have one.

That's the original Skorpion protoype that did the rounds at the bike shows in the early 90's and had a Rotax 500 engine installed. It also had a smaller fairing, plus Yamaha wheels and brakes. I remember seeing it at the NEC bike show.

its a rotax 504e or 605e shame BMW short circuited the project by getting rotax to build the
f650 motor

i would love to have a 605 in a traveller frame
friend has a atk 605 esds I think that's it numbers
it is a terror on a back road

i do not usually ride other peoples bikes but when he offered ...I took it out for a ride
its had some engine work and boy its got a lot more bite than my traveller
in fact i told him if he wanted to sell it to call me first

i would use it but not abuse it....
if you think your mz is rare try finding one of these

Just an observation. The bike in the picture is right side drive so whatever engine is in that bike probably won't be a bolt in mod for the production Skorpion. Swing arm and a couple of other things would need to be modified at the very least.

engine swaps are never a problem ...american mechanics are famous for putting engines where they do not fit...

like a 12 cylinder Allison in the bed of a VW van
