i took the rod completely out of the rear brake so i know there was no pressure from the rear and it stayed on.

how do i test the front?

i did push the front away from the plunger and it stayed on but i dont think either of the tests i performed were accurate.

whats the right way to test the front and rear brakes?

If it's like the Skorpion, it has a mechanical switch on the front lever and a pressure switch on the rear. The pressure switch would be my guess. Get a multi-meter and test to see if the status of the circuit changes when you move the rear lever. You can do the same test on the front switch too but my guess is it's the pressure switch stuck in the on position.

the pressure switch is about the same as on my rt125 and has failed so often i replaced it with an old
spring pull type from a honda
there appears to be a whole bunch of defective switches 2000 to 2005

Okay to start off I had the wires switched on the brake light. I found that out when I removed the rear brake connectors and touched them together and the licence plate light turned off an on. So I switched them.

Same test, rear pressure switch is bad. Anyone know which replacement will fit?

As for the front switch I accidently broke when trying to remove the wires to do the same test none the less I still did the test and even touching the wires did not make the light come on, what's next to test the front... and anyone know which replacement go's to that?

remove the wires from the rear switch then connect the front wires together

if no light its disconnected test from ground with a lamp or meter to 1 wire at a time
with key on one of them should be hot +12v
