Bike not starting / electrical problem

Postby duncmac » Tue Mar 01, 2016 4:00 am

Morning all

I've had the mz laid up in the garage over winter and been using the honda.

Hondas clutch actuator rod or something in that areas gone so its in the garage.

I put the freshly charged battery back in the baghira, lights worked, neutral light was on, indicators and horn worked. But it didnt even click when I pressed the starter.

I then pulled up the side stand and now nothing works :( - effing bikes eh!

I was rushing to get to work, so didnt spend long checking stuff out, but it seems like a few of the fuses have gone (in that little block near the battery)

I'll replace the fuses, but any ideas where to start trouble shooting?

Just to confirm - pole of the batt. was connected to brown wires and the + to the blacked capped wire. This is correct?

Thanks in advance!

i have had a lot of bad fuses in bikes and 2 way radios in the last few years
use a 12volt battery and 12volt lamp to check them 194 marker lamp works good
it draws some current but not enough to blow the fuse

relay 19 or 30 on mz drawings controls the whole bike and is wired to the side stand sw and kill button

the oem relay is too small

did you check the fuses first to see if any were blown to start with?starter soleniod is close to battery so just check the thin wires are plugged in properly/securely as it can get disturbed when fitting battery, also check both terminals are tight on battery and the battery wire going to soleniod from battery +good luck

Found the issue.

The original battery was dead, so I've been using the a spare from my CBR which has a diff shape to the mz, such that if the battery is put in the same way round as the original (poles on rear side of bike/batt) the poles are reversed

So changed fuses and put in battery right way round, black capped lead to + (replaced two fuses) etc and it turns over now, doesnt start though.

Emptied float bowl and once the battery is charged I'll see if it catches.

Hate to leave a thread un-updated :D

Its alive!

Fully charged battery and drained float bowl and she started 3rd try.

Hour ride out and its good to be out on her again.

Sunny morning in the south only saw one other bike though !

So plugging in the battery the wrong way round blows two of the four fuses and thats it. thank fk
