baghira carbs help/advice

hi,have givern my baghira a service today,valves,oil and filter etc and decided to give the carbs a clean as had trouble starting from cold lately,anyway found the slide on the cv carb has twisted slightly, so removed diaphram and was able to twist it slightly to re-align slide with the diaphram,before i put the carbs back in is there any further adjustment/settings i should do whilst there on bench,there seems to be a lot of movement on the first carb before the cv starts to operate,is this normal,thanks in advance,rodge
i have owned bike from new and this is first time the carbs have been off so no idea how long slide has been like this but it has wear marks on the slide where it has been on the piss,2008 model with about 16000mls.

Not sure why your slide twisted but you can adjust the timing of the second carb with a screw that is on top of the carb assembly, in between the two carbs. You don't want them to open at exactly the same but they can be pretty close. The bike will likely seem more punchy if you have been riding with a good amount of delay.

The factory say there should be a 6mm lift on the first carb before the second one opens. I closed mine back to 3mm (using a 3mm drill bit as a guide). I tried with them opening simultaneously but it suffered a flat spot, probably because the first carb deals with the slow running system

As DandyW says use a 6mm drill bit to set the opening of the slide with the CV butterfly just shut using the link screw.

Just an idea, while the carbs are off remove the main jets and the pilot jet and its adjusting screw using a tight fitting screw driver, blow through with carb cleaner from an aerosol ( they're very cheap to buy) and then compressed air and set the float heights. Should end up with a fine running bike, then

cheers everyone,did a strip and clean of jets and carb body,sorted the valve throttle opening settings with a drill bit,carbs back in place now, refit radiators,add coolant and put bike back together then good to go.
well bike starts mega quick now and very smooth on acceleration,not sure if its the valve clearances or the dodgey throttle valve that was the cause but the end result is great,and on choke the bike now has a higher smoother rpm where as before it was a very erratic lumpy tick over that would often kill the engine
