Replacement Stator

So I put a couple miles on this bike since the purchase and since cleaning up the rough running condition which I posted about a couple weeks ago.

So she broke down when filling up and would not start, no charge...

Fuses looked good, battery was new, and just check the stator coil resistance and I'm seeing 8 ohms. The engine manual I'm looking at says it should be between .2-.3 ohms, so i'm looking for a replacement now.

My question is can I order a stator for a XT600? I don't want to wait for an overseas shipment and I want a reliable brand(hopefully better than OE). I found a rmstator for the xt600 for 99$. Just need to confirm i will fit up to my mastiff.

Thanks.

Well I charged my battery and apparently there's an internal short in it. It's brand new... Return time.

I threw in my spare to check a few things, and the charging voltage is 14.9V at 5K rpms, which matches what the manual states.

Even though my stator winding is out of spec by far, the voltage regulator still can work with it. I think I should still keep an eye out for a replacement stator, anyone have any thoughts on this?

How did you check the stator? That number in the manual is for each field. You should have three numbers for stator resistance.

Yes I check between all three wires, they were all +- .2 ohms of each other averaging about 8.

You might want to check with a pro before replacing. I think it's odd that they are all off that far, and by the same amount.

use a good fluke meter
some of the cheap ones are not to accurate
dave

and dont forget the leads if long or poor quality at very low values can mess up a reading
short the leads on meter and see what it reads and subtract it from reading

i some times do strange things with electric
but its been a long time since i made smoke come out of anything :smt040 :smt023
