Baghira Caliper Seals

Postby Zedthou » Sat Dec 29, 2018 2:40 pm

i intend on stripping & rebuilding the Baghira front & rear calipers,i am going to require a complete set of seals for both,i've already searched the internet & so far it's proved fruitless,i think it's safe to assume that this is going to be yet another Baghira parts nightmare.... unobtainable most likely...

So..the long shot...is there anyone on here that can shed any light on where these caliper seal kits can be obtained?,there are some Grimeca piston & seal kits on Ebay but i haven't split the calipers yet so i've no idea what size the pistons & seals are, again it's probably safe to assume that none of the available kits will be what i need..

Hi bud, i know what you're going through, iv'e had a Baggy for a few months that's going through a bit of a fettle at the moment & the lack of info, parts & a quiet forum don't help. As you say there are Grimeca rebuild kits available but until you split the caliper you don't know the dimensions so i would give homebrew123 a shout (the guy that replied to your swingarm linkage post) he bought some tires off me a couple of months ago & he know's his onions when it comes to the Baggy/Mastiff, in fact, it turns out he used to own my Baggy. He may know what size seals, pistons etc or an alternative caliper that fits. Let me me know if you find out bud as no doubt i'll need the info myself at some point.

Sorry for late reply, the seal kits for front calipers are obsolete now, but they were the same caliper as the Aprilia Pegaso 650 91-96 before they fitted Brembo, which as far as I am aware does not fit. The Aprilia seal kits are not available unless you find some old stock. I know that the calipers fit perfect, they use the same pads so that is a givaway, but I also have an Aprilia caliper and it does indeed slide onto the MZ fork bracket, and everything ok. So as a last resort a second hand Aprilia will work perfect, but not the ideal solution when really you want to completely overhaul the brakes. I have spoke to a place at Chesterfield that specialise in caliper seals and rebuilding calipers, and they have been trying to match the front seals up for years and failed. The rear Grimeca seals are also not available, but I haven't looked into it fully, and I have a feeling that they can be matched up to some other seals, as there are still some calipers in use now, that look like a copy of the original Grimeca, but it will take some detective work to track them down, and until I need to do it, I won't bother, because I have had a belly full of the front caliper I am trying to repair at the moment lol Cheers Jon

If the Baggy's calipers/seals are the same as the 91-96 Pegaso then there is a company i have used many times that sells the seal kit for the rear brake of the aforementioned bike but no details about the front. May be worth giving them a shout.

Sent them a message, "no parts available at this time."

So the front caliper pistons and seals are completely obsolete, and the rear may be possible if you can find some old stock. I know that some of the 125 Aprilias were fitted with the same rear brake caliper because there is one on ebay for sale in Italy brand new for over 250 quid as far as I remember. But that may be another line of research and chance to find some parts.

I have spoke to the company in Chesterfield already, and the will not be any more seals or pistons available for the front calipers ever, so only option is second hand caliper and hope its alright, or modify to fit Brembo etc.

I think this caliper on ebay item number 231818783793 is the same as the Baghira and Mastiff rear caliper.

I can’t remember where it was - it could have been here - but someone posted this:

Baghira front caliper plate
This is to suit a K5 or K6 650 Suzuki (arse) Bandit left hand Tokico caliper (non ABS), a cheaper and easier to find alternative to Brembo.
It perfoms much better than the OE Grimey thing even with the original master cylinder.

I just bought and fitted ebay uk item NEW GEN. APRILIA PEGASO 125/ PEGASO 600 90-91 BRAKE CALIPER REV. KIT AP8113376 (repair kit) so can confirm this caliper is same as on Baghira.
The kit was old stock so not sure how good the rubber is but works for now to get thru mot. Think there may be the odd old stock on ebay in Europe too if you search AP8113376.
There was a tiny o ring with it - not sure where it goes ?
My piston was in good condition if anyone needs one.
I spent quite a long time searching to check it looked like right part (pads were same etc) and as others found out Grimeca items are not stocked anywhere so old Aprilia repair parts seem best source. Out of interest don't think Aprilia or most modern manufacturers do kits for current bikes for safety reasons.
Made me think about front brakes - couldn't find any Aprilia kits that looked ok - wondered if the brembo fitted to later 650 Pegasos could be a direct replacement if they kept same mounting geometry?
Then need to check which Brembos have seal kits available before purchasing.
Wondered if anyone got a far as changing for front Brembo and knows part numbers and if seals are available etc to save us searching if required.
Then theres the master cylinders...
I found a generic rear brake switch easily that fitted earlier.

There are some Baghira/Mastiff front & rear new caliper seals on German ebay at the moment, not cheap though.
