1998 Skorpion Radiator Cap

Postby oldbiker1 » Sun Mar 24, 2019 10:41 pm

I desperately need a rad cap for my Skorp!! Ive had the cooling system pressure checked today and after more than 20psi pressure in there it was found not leaking! Bonus! BUT the cap is very 2nd hand and not sealing very well. I was told we use a Yamaha Engine, Yes, but no Yamaha listing is available for the cap.
Could someone advise me where to buy one in Australia please? Or will I have to get one from Grahams in the UK? Nothing cross references to ANY Yamaha part. I spent 20 minutes with the local parts fellow today trying ANY listing.

1.1 bar dont exist!! best is either a 1.0 bar or 1.4 bar!!! this is getting very annoying! Might swap the neck of the rad over to a generic one to get a common cap!

closest in OZ going by the dimensions is:
KTM 65SX 1.4 Bar...A$30 will do for now. Ill chat to an alloy welder to put on a generic neck so I can use a common rad cap.

A cap acting as a 1.4bar (= 20psi) safety valve (as opposed to 1.1bar = 16psi) will increase the temperature at which it will start to blow-off. This is desirable for enduro bikes, KTM's heartland, as for several tough climbs you cannot make any speed, while you have to work the clutch a lot. Lacking cooling, the engine temperature increases. If the bike starts to cook & you loose your coolant, you're done.

For a road bike, a higher pressure seems a bit pointless, but I'm not sure it can do any harm either.

yes I was wondering about that. I asked the rad experts and they assured me the 0.2 bar shouldnt be a problem
