So I took the thermostat apart and this is what I see. Cocked valve from get go or cocked on purpose cause of over heating? Are they available ? cost? Any aftermarket ones I can get locally at motorcycle shop or auto parts store? thanks

Gee, and after I told you that I have never had a thermostat problem!
I think I have one if you are in a HURRY. All you have to do is send me another to replace it.

thanks Steve, lets hold off on it for now. Bigger fish to fry. I gutted the thermostat since it was ruined anyway and will just do without till I can get the head gasket to stop blowing. I just put it all back together and tried running it this morning, which it did till I noticed oil coming from between the head and cylinder.
I think this motor should have 6 to 8 head bolts instead of 4 to get a more even clamping pressure around the water jacket.
But then I read of others that have never had problems with theirs.
I'm thinking I didn't tighten the cylinder head nuts enough????
manual says 22 Nm (16 ft lbs) then tighten 80 degrees +10 ???? Does this mean to torque them all to 16 ft lbs then manually tighten them 80 degrees more which woud be just shy of 1/4 turn to stretch them?

Having never had a head off, I don't really know. That is how I interpret what you have written. With the +10 I would think 1/4 turn would be the result.
Such a different procedure. I have never encountered this type of instruction. Don't forget to quench the copper for softness.
