Restoration MZ ETZ 250

Postby Igordiver » Sun Apr 12, 2020 7:03 am

So here’s my thread on my second restoration attempt of my 1984 MZ ETZ 250.
The first time I did manage to make it run but only for a little while. It did not run really fine and the kickstarter kept giving me problems. When taking it apart again I did find a broken gear in the gearbox, so I decided to take it completely apart. Due to health-issues and other oldtimer projects I haven’t doen anything on this project the last three years but now it’s time to turn the lockdown into something positive.
The last couple of days I’ve made a selection of the best parts available from both ETZ 250 in my possession. After that I started cleaning the various parts.
From now on I will put group by group back together so I get a picture of what parts I need to order.
A restoration thread is worthless with some pictures so here are some and some obligatory before/after pictures.

I ALWAYS love following build threads..

Restoring two at a time though eh? Sounds like a case of "Two margarines on the go"...

IE: Women... Don't neglect either one- they are both as needy..

I rebuilt two engines in succession myself a while ago.. Like you, I am not best pleased with how one of the engines turned out (the other is amazing...)... Be careful to double check requirements and measurements and wearing! I didn't necessarily bother too much with that and I think at some point in the future i'll be opening her up again!
