Ts250/1 stuck clutch

Bikebeen standing for around a year but occasionally turned over, but now the clutch is stuck, dismantled clutch had oil still on plates, cleaned and reassembled but still stuck. Was unable to purchase new plates as ones supplied did not fit. Existing plates appear in good condition no rust and not warped and no ridges on drum, any ideas?

I wouldn't have bothered taking it all apart if it was genuinely working fine before being put away. It's not uncommon at all. The easiest and non-destructive way is to bump start the bike and leave it in gear and whilst the clutch cable is pulled in- just keep riding and stopping (almost until the bike stalls then pull the throttle back up to a higher speed). They'll break free after a few of those.

Thanks for the advice I will try that, I did have it running on the centre stand in gear and tried sitting and dropping the rear wheel but just stalled. Only misgiving is relying on the ts front brake with a bucking bronco!

I`ve never experienced this myself. Does the lever move as normal then? If not couldn`t it simply be the clutch cable seized?

Sometimes I don't use my bikes for weeks (I have 5, so cycling between them all takes time depending on how I feel like), and yes the clutch lever and cable feel perfectly fine- but sometimes just dropping it in first can stall the engine, esspecially when the engine has just started and it is at kinda idling speed. Not the case when you intentionally raise the RPM because you remembered the fact the clutch might be seized. Use it every day and not an issue at all, but a week, two weeks, more whatever it can potentially happen. Depends on trans oil used, condition of the clutch and mechanism etc etc. So all my MZ's actually behave differently. One of the bikes doesn't have an issue at all even after months of sitting, despite using the same oil as the others (however that particular bike is using original clutch plates- maybe aftermarket friciton plates are just kinda crap, really).

Hi.

Thinking on it, I am now in the habit of putting my Mastiff in first gear before pulling it out (backwards) with the clutch lever pulled to free the clutch up against engine compression.
I have to do this even if it`s only been left a day, perhaps it`s down to a particular clutch material compound.

Put some silkoline light gear oil in as recommended in mzrc hints and tips booklet and clutch freed by just kicking over,astonished! But now engine cuts out on pulling away, suspect electrical fault but need to thaw out first to have another look.

Running well now after putting on the old carb, bought a Honda front tls hub 36 spoke holes hoping it will stop the ts a bit better,any advice on that? Thanks for all the help.
