Roadworthy ?

I know that MZ owners travel all over the world with there 5 speed bikes,
Like the ETZs and the Saxons.
But do you know anybody who regularly travels with their old timer 4-speeds
doing any serious riding ?

The old gal is just about ready to make heat after a year of work.

250 cc 55 mph to 60 mph on back roads should work good

just don't try to take to much with you and riding double could be a bit of a chore...

i have done almost 300 miles in 6 to 7 hours on my rt 125 4 stroke

Hi
A rebuilt MZ represents a lot of motorcycling. I much prefer four speed 250s as the gearboxes never give trouble.

And I have just rebuilt an ES250.

That's an impressive speed for a 125.
Wish it had been a two stroke so I could ask you about oil consumption.

Well your two stroke oil consumption will be 1/33 of your gas comsumption ( assuming you use 1:33 premix) and the gearbox/primary oil should stay where it is until it needs changing!

i changed the rear sprocket on mine from 49 to 52 tooth and gained pulling power on hills..

the joke where i live is its uphill to every where your going.
the change made the flat out top speed at REDLINE = 69mph

but only 2 roads where i live are posted over 55 mph and i very seldom go where i need to use them ...

so it works great

one of the favourite conversions in my area to a BMW R60/6 or a BMW R75/6 or R90/6
is to install the rear end from a R50/5 with its low gearing so 4th and 5th gear can be used with out
breaking the speed limits
where i live any thing over 750cc is a waste unless you pull a sidecar or a small camping trailer
and going fast is not a good idea,, as the roads are very crooked..
There is a rumor that one hot shoe rider wound up with the imprint of his number plate in his plastic face shield on
a pass threw one of our sharper corners...
if you think i am stretching it a bit.. try OHIO State Route 555 off US RT.50 about 3 miles west of Belpre OHIO
and 6 or 7 miles from my front door... its called the TRIPLE NICKLE
and runs from US rt50 north to near Zanesville ohio
nothing like the sound of an MZ RT 125 playing a song at 10,000 rpm on this road...the rt works this road to well beyond the speed limit

I took my ES250 Trophy back to Zscopau last year from North England. we took 5 days to get there (from being in France after the ferry) with a day off, so 4 days of riding. Whilst there we also did a 100 mile ride out with the local (lunatic!) vintage club.
The bike performed great - cruised at around 55 ish on dual carriageways and we tried to avoid motorways if possible.
Long distance is perfectly do-able if you accept you can rush too much!

I don't mind if its a relaxed pace.
(but no slo-peds please).

. And if it motors on and on and on and on that machine has a place in my garage and in my heart.

The opposite is american bikes. (Sheesh) not what I want.
