ETZ 250 Oil consumption

Planning a 200 + mile round trip on my ETZ in the next week or so, just wondering roughly how many miles I can expect to get out of a full tank of oil.

Should I take a top up bottle with me?

The operating instructions for the MZ oil pump states that the tank capacity is approx 1.3 litres, and that the range per oil tank capacity is "about 1300 km (depends on speed and riding conditions)", ie 1 litre per 1000 Km. This seems a suspiciously round figure!
I get more than 500 miles per litre, so you would not normally need a spare bottle for a 200 mile trip.

I imagine the pump and the reservoir would do around 700-800 miles. It's like 1.3litres?

I do pre-mix so it's hard for me to discern how much the pump would take. But I use 500ml per tank (however miles that ends up being, normally at least 200 miles).

But yes, as Puffs says: always take a small bottle.. just incase the petrol station you end up at is card only/non kiosk! I would hate to be one of those people who need fuel, but only buy their two stroke oil at the petrol station when they need it..

On a few occasions I have been unable to buy two stoke oil and have used multigrade oil to get me to somewhere that had 2T oil (sometimes 100's of km). Never had any problems but I would not use it on a regular basis.

500 ml per tank is about 1: 35 mixture.
That is far to much oil...

And, no , it is not true that the more oil you put in the better it is for the engine....

30:1, 33:1, 35:1. I don't measure. At whatever point I get to a petrol station after getting into reserve I put the pint in.

I actually didn't say that more oil is better for an engine. Although now you bring that up it is very sore topic that gets brought up again and again and again. I have read documentation that says both oil is good and less is good. I don't particularly care- I just put in 30(ish) to 1 and ride the damn things.

The manuals may say use 50:1 but I want evidence that a german/european ridden MZ that has done.. let's say 60k miles on 50:1 without going beyond 1st oversize piston or main bearings.

:-D

Just recently topped up the oil tank on my etz 250 after 499 miles. It took less than 1 litre , but was very full to start with and was half way down the window at the end. I don't normally leave it any where near that long, and wouldn't recommend it. A top up after every 2 fills of the petrol tank is a reasonable rule of thumb, imho.

I ran my TZ350's on 15:1 R30 and Shell 115/145. They always performed very well.

Completed my trip - around 210 miles, plenty of 2t left in the tank.

Fuel consumption was around 50MPG which seems reasonable to me.

No issues with the running of the bike, in fact the harder I rode it, the better it seemed to go !!

I do have comfort issues - see new thread I have started.
