MZ ETX 125 problems!

Postby Schroeter » Sun Jul 26, 2015 8:33 am

Hello everyone.
Just joined the forum because I thought this would be the best place to ask the experts for advice on my recent purchase of a beast of a bike.

MZ ETZ 125.

F reg.

Problem is its a bloody pig to start. I tried the magic method that the guy I bought it off recommended. Worked a couple of times then wouldnt. I managed to bump start it but then it wouldnt idle. My mate is more mechanically minded than me so I took it to his for help.
So the carb has all been stripped and cleaned, and loose things tightened. Air filter is fine. I got the fuel mix wrong at 1:33 so drained it and replace with 1:50. Idle speed is now set up so that when it does eventually start it idles nicely. The plug is new. The electrical connections to the battery were shoddy so they have been replaced.
This is where I am today....
Tried to start it with the magic method and it gurgled like it wanted to start then there was nothing, so i spent 5 minuteds up and down the street bumping it. When it started I got it nice and warm and then knocked it off. Tried to kick it straight away and absolutely nothing.
Anyone got any more ideas because im getting sad now that ivec got a bike that I cant ride for fear of not being able to start again!

Cheers.

if it has set and not been driven the crank seals may need replaced
or the points and timing
maybe air leak some where
2 strokes are simple motors BUT A BIT FUSSY TO GET TO RUN SOME TIMES
i am surprised know one has answered

Thanks David. It may turn into a long battle!
The paint job might have frightened all the other replies away! Its certainly not standard.
