Two stroke oil

I'm sure this has been asked a hundred times before but I can not find it .

But what's the best oil for a TS 250/1 I was sold some putolene mx5 which seems fine it's fully synthetic .

I use the cheapest stuff I can get. Usually £40 for 4 gallons. Mineral, semi, whatever it's all good. I think people read far too much into 2t oil these days. It's not the problem it once was!

I used to use cheap 20/50 weight oil. As my Mz Ts 125/ 150's werent performance 2t's. Most of my Kawasaki Ar125's were ran on a mixture of crap 2t and 20/50- 10/40. And they ran much better. Although most of them the oil was metered by a mikuni pumps.

This is the plug colour after a test ride tonight and sorting out my bogging down at 5000rpm now it revs great I moved the needle to.postion four and raised the float height to 27 mm from 25 mm what do you think to the colour of the plug .
Oh and this is still running on putolene synthetic mx5 1:33 .

Looks alright, of course if you're running full synth oil, plus using a new spark plug, and not been actually riding for that many miles then it might be too early to tell. Looks a bit light to me, but that could be because the oil is burning too well to leave much of a residue. Also lighting has a huge effect when taking photographs of such things.

Maybe this weekend I will put a few miles and pull the plug and have a comparison picture.

You should be able to smell the 2"t as it burns out to the end of the exhaust. And any time to check a plug ( in my opinion ) it put it in, drive until warm and pulling/acting with no faults. bring it back to base ( or a convenient carpark )
And rev the engine about three quarters throttle for thirty seconds, let it tick over for about five minutes, rev the engine to three quarters throttle for twenty seconds. Take plug out and check colour. :shock: :o :D

The good thing is you know have a photo to compare the plug with, call it the beta test.

I used to do this with all my Mzs and every 2t I tried to tune, sometimes I was successful, a couple of times not. As one of my fellow lockup owners used to tune Mx bikes for fun and he also beach raced them. But perseverance is the key. Ohh and good weather, and lots of time and funds.

I was a lucky ducky and managed to collect an almost unused (maybe 1 litre gone) 20l drum of 2t oil for free! The other guys/my friends didn't want it because it was mineral. But... poppycock!

It is clearly poor fuel supply. The correct color is coffee with milk.
Poor gasoline-air mixture is the most dangerous since it greatly raises the temperature and is prone to seizure.

It's difficult to say looking at such pictures sometimes, as tertiary light can play a big part in conflicting with the colour of the spark plug. Plus cameras on phones these days try to counteract high/low brightness which can also add confusion compared to looking at it with one's own naked eye.

But: That spark plug looks brand new? It can take 20,30,40 miles to get a nice spark plug reading, removing it to inspect the colour too soon can also be detriment to finding the correct ratio.

You should be running 50:1 shouldn`t you? My Supa 5 did.
Apart from anything else adding more oil (you 33:1) makes it run weaker.

It will run weaker, but from 1-2%. It's nothing.

I've run pre-mix on both my ETZ's without rejetting, for collectively 37,000 miles. The original ETZ250 service manual gives the same size jets and makes no note at all between the pre-mix and the injection model.

Hi.

I`m not disputing the fact that the jetting is not different between oil injection and pre-mix as they may average out to be the same fuel/oil ratio.
But, why add more oil to your petrol than the manufacturers advise? Adding more oil than recommended to your gearbox wouldn`t aid it!
As I remember it the 250s were 50:1 and the 125s/150s 33:1.

Or am I missing something?

All my Mz Ts models had a measure in the cap. So I used that. But seldom put more in the tank. Actually I put in less. And most of them were filled with petrol and 20/50 weight oil. Cheaper the better. As it was a 2t tractor engine. Using premium oils made no sense.
They never seized, they broke down a lot, never overheated either. Maybe I was lucky.
