Nice country, let's hope Bulgaria is not too close to the heat. Whereabouts in Bulgaria?
It's hot today.
I'm in the SE, about 40 miles from the Greek border.

I'm still restoring the house we bought so it'll be slow going. i may be able to organise a day a week to work on the bikes. Depends on how generous my wife feels about living in a building site.

It's an ES250 - But I can't say what specific model /0 or /1 etc.
I wonder if I might have passed through that region when I came back from Istanbul many years back. On the way back to Bulgaria I decided it might have been quicker to go through the Greek border and then back into Bulgaria. I believe it was the border between Bulgarian town of Svilengrad/Свиленград and Greek town of Ormenio/Ορμένιο. By the end of the day I found myself near the Danube.

Svilingrad is almost directly south of us. You would have passed by our village on the way north. Although it's unlikely that you came anywhere near us as we're realllly off the beaten track.

Can I ask how you know it's a 250?

Sorry. I suppose it could be a 175. Unlikely to be a 300. But I can see from the design of the bike it is a larger capacity engine and not 125cc etc.

OK. Thank you.
I need a new cylinder as the old one only has about half its fins so I need to be able to order the right part.
The engine is completely seized and getting the piston out of the cylinder did a lot of damage. I've not gone any further with it yet, but I'm expecting a lot more problems.

I've been in that area too, a few years back, with the car (and a board on the roof - windsurfing on the Black Sea), we went from Burgas --> Thessaloniki.
Sounds like you picked an adventurous spot to live!
See blurredman's FTP site for a workshop manual, or miraculis.de for one in German. To find out which model it is, compare what you see on your bike with the data in the manuals. A barrel may not be cheap though.
Good luck with the house!

I'm hoping to find a used one. There are a few places in Bulgaria that do parts for old soviet motorcycles. Thanks for the link, I'll certainly go and take a look. I've had the bike for a few months and it got buried at the back of the workshop when I had stuff delivered and needed some storage space. I'm planning to dig it out after the weekend, so I'll be able to have a good look then.
Burgas is quite a nice city. Bit big for me though, I like the countryside.
Our house is about 20 miles from Yambol which is the nearest big town.

I could measure the piston. I'm assuming the bore/stroke size denotes the capacity. Or is it possible to find information on the bike from the engine number? I remember from my MG days a friend was able to get lots of info based on the chassis number.
