Hi Det,
many modern browsers do no longer support FTP, you can access blurredman's FTP site with, for instance, K-Meleon Portable (try https://portableapps.com/apps/internet/ ... n-portable):

You want the ES manual, I do not know the difference between the 2.

Miraculis has MUCH more, and these are the scanned original manuals, in HTML. You might be able to read them in English via a modern browser (the text, not the pics).

Yes, SV = ¼πB²S, with SV = Stroke Volume, B = Bore & S = Stroke. All ES 175/250's have a 65mm stroke, for the ES 300 it's 72mm. The latest ES250/2 had B=69mm (making SV=243cc), the earlier ES250 & ES250/1 had B=70mm, giving SV=250.15cc - a minor legal issue. Of course B changes under a rebore.

Yes again, there is info in the VIN (like the date of manufacturing), but I do not know the details for the ES.

As we're a bit beyond the saying hello stage now, please continue this thread in the Vintage area viewforum.php?f=5

MZ ES 175/1 basket case (Hello part2)

Postby Det » Mon Jun 09, 2025 6:06 am

(Post merged from thread on IZH trike)

I finally dug my way to the back of the garage and moved the bikes around to give me room to have a proper look at the MZ.
There's definitely no vin plate; I found the remains of a rivet on the frame with less faded paint where I expected it to be. However I found something else on the rear mudguard.

At last I know what it is. I'll sleep better at night now.

I saw the pictures. But ES 175/1 is only the model, but the VIN plate means(as I understand it) the plate where you can find the year of production, maximum weight and the Identification number of the frame .

The way I understand it, VIN = Vehicle Identification Number, also known as frame number, usually stamped into the frame. There's also an engine number, and it may or may not be the same, depending on the brand. But the VIN is in the frame, and that's the number normally used for vehicle registration documents.
Many, if not all makers also fit an aluminium plate stating the VIN and other vehicle information (like weight, year, maximum load, ...). The steering head is a common place, but on the ES it might be here:

It would be nice to know the year though. I have the engine number and, assuming it is the original engine, that may one day give me an answer.

Tell me the frame and engine number, then I can tell you the year of production...

Det, I understand the frame number should be stamped on the steering head, or maybe near the engine mount.

On these models it is on the right side of the frame where the front part of the engine is connected with frame

Evening all.
Thanks for all the suggestions.
I just went out and cleaned the frame where you suggested Guesi. It's actually on the engine mount bracket, on the left side of the bike.
I'm well pleased.

Great Guesi!

So produced late '64 - early '65, left the factory October '65, and maybe first registered in Bulgaria late '65 - early '66. Some 60 years old!
